As you may recall from a while while back when I made a post about an iPod Touch exploding (which was an 11 year old girl’s iPod). After that, about a week from today, an iPhone exploded, well the screen glass went everywhere and injured a teenagers eye in France.

Now Apple knew that this teenager was going to try to sue Apple so Apple took action. Apple said

As many of you may know, Apples iPhone is targeted at businesses as a Smartphone for the ease of use and variety of things possible with it. This seems to have worked as hundreds of thousands are being used by governments and corperations. This could not be for much longer though because according to a few hackers the Iphone 3gs’s encryption is wide open for people such as themselves, according to them actually it can be hacked into with a few pieces of freeware.

Jonathan Zdziarski (seen above)  A hacker and app developer said “It is kind of like storing all your secret messages right next to the secret decoder ring,” he also said “I don’t Think any of us [developers] have ever seen encryption implemented so poorly before, which is why it’s hard to describe why it’s such a big threat to security.”

This is shocking as Apple have been advertising the iPhone 3gs as “more enterprise friendly,” and it seems companies lapped this up as 20 percent of The top 100 earning Companies have purchased 10,000 or more iPhones each.

The hacker said that if anyone got their hands on someone’s iphone 3GS they could extract live data in as little as 2 minutes, and get a whole image disk in 45 minutes, which as you can imagine could be horrible if a businessman has secret infomation on his phone.

If you are wondering how they do this Jonathan Zdziarski To steal an iPhone’s disk image, hackers can use popular jailbreaking tools such as Red Sn0w and Purple Ra1n to Install a custom kernel on the phone. Then, the thief can install a Secure Shell (SSH) client to port the iPhone’s raw disk image across SSH onto a computer. Many of people, Such as myself who jailbreak and are interested in iphones and ipod touches has this software on their computer and know how to use it.

Though it seems businesses don’t know or don’t care in apples latest keynote they announced huge increase in iPhone 3GS and 3.0 firmware in companies because of the improvement in security. it will be interesting to see if anything happens because of this news.

Let’s start out with this awesome quote: “It’s not going to be impossible to jailbreak even if the exploit we used is gone,” said Eric McDonald, a member of the iPhone Dev-Team, which publishes tools to jailbreak the iPhone, in a phone interview with Wired.com.

That is awesome! I knew that hackers were smart enough to figure anything out. The 24kpwn exploit used to help jailbreak previous generations of iPhones and iPod Touch devices only made it easier to boot up the hacked devices.

The newly shipping iPhone 3GS’s bootrom interferes with 24kpwn, but that will only make the handset difficult to start up after it shuts down. Booting up will require being “tethered” to a computer, which is what we saw with the iPod Touch 3g. That means if you shut down a jailbroken iPhone 3GS, or if it runs out of power, you can only turn it back on by plugging it into a computer and then re-jailbreaking the device.

So this whole thing will just make jailbreaking a bigger bitch than it is already for some users. However, McDonald said the Dev-Team will just have to find a new exploit to enable untethered booting once again, which we know they are capable of.

The reports of the new 3GS were sort of true, as the phones do indeed ship with different firmware with a new bootrom, but they are still hackable.

Here is a quote from Steve Jobs in regards to jailbreaking: “It’s a cat-and-mouse game, We try to stay ahead. People will try to break in, and it’s our job to stop them breaking in.”

That didn’t work too well Mr. Jobs.

3) Run the purplera1n application
4) Your device will now enter DFU mode and you will see a USB cable on your screen
5) Exit out of the purplera1n application and run it again
6) Now you will see the purplera1n boot logo on your screen
7) Wait for your iPhone 3G S to boot up now click on freeze and install Cydia

Apparently we can see in the video -(Click On The Youtube Link Below The Pic)- that a man testing out his new iPhone 3GS video recorder when suddenly he drops it into the pool! Fake? Probably. I really don’t now if this is true but I also bet no one here is going to try imitating this crazy act, I’m sure I wont after what happend to me! But this might be a start that apple was looking for and maybe just maybe they will think of this a little bit more.
