Apple has just release new firmware 3.1.3 and you know that means a new jailbreak is coming sometime soon, but this article is to inform you about the new features/fixes. One thing is that the iPhone 3GS will have better accuracy for the battery level, a problem where third-party programs would sometimes not launch, and a bug that could cause an application to crash when using the Japanese Kana keyboard.

Also, there are some security patches in the release, such as a CoreAudio fix to guard against maliciously crafted MP4 files, an ImageIO patch that similarly protects against malicious crafted TIFF images, improved handling in certain USB control messages to prevent someone with physical access to the phone from accessing private data using the device’s recovery mode, and some patches for WebKit that deal with HTML Mail messages and maliciously crafted FTP servers.

The file is around 291MB  and can be downloaded when you plug your device in and click install and update.

This is just a minor update just fixing a few bugs that were found in 3.1.1. You’ll now find that Apple have fixed an ongoing issue which caused the iPhone to not wake from sleep sometimes, while AI also points out that an ‘intermittent’ issue which may have been interrupting cellular network services until you restart, has now been addressed.

Another problem was that some devices crashed while opening a video, this is also fixed in this new firmware update.

The update will be a little over 200MB in size and can be downloaded only through iTunes. Also, there is a similar update for the iPod Touch.

Now do not update to this new firmware if you are expecting to have a jailbroken or unlocked device. You should all wait until the dev team figures out a hackable exploit for this new firmware, which I will keep you all updated with.

The upcoming Pragram entitled “Blackra1n” will Jailbreak ANY iPhone or Touch Firmware! This is huge news for the jailbreaking community as this will make jailbreaking a breeze now and we will not have to worry about downgrading or any of that!

If you have not yet jailbroken before, basically it lets you download a ton of 3rd party applications, allows you to have themes, get free app store apps, and much much more. If you have never jailbroken before, I defiantly think that you should look into it.

Apple is investigating several reports of people complaining about poor battery life for their iPhone 3GS users after they upgraded to the 3.1 firmware. The 3.1 upgrade did deliver a lot of new and useful features but this was not what some people were expecting. There are several iPhone 3GS users on the 3.1 firmware that are looking for solutions to this problem but unfortunately there are not any kind of fixes right now, the only thing that could fix this is downgrading your iPhone to 3.0 or 3.0.1.

Apple is now offering (for download) a battery life logger, which will collect information about your iPhone’s battery life. The logger syncs the data with iTunes and sends it off to Apple for investigation.

Also, some of these people have tried restoring, which is what most apple help center’s would say to do when experiencing battery issues, but it still does not work. Some things that could slow down your iPhone and run the battery out faster is using push notifications, frequent vibrating, and running apps or the internet in the background.

Today apple released this beta 3 firmware to iPhone developers across the nation. This Build is going to be called 7C116a.

Firmware 3.1 beta 2 came out about 2 weeks ago and it is still unconfirmed with what is new in this beta firmware version 3.

What I will be happy to see in the 3.1 firmware is video editing software (apps) and the ability to stream live on the internet through your iPhone.

This maybe a  rumor but could be true, so I am going to write about it! As we all know, the iPhone 3GS came out after the iPhone OS 3.0 for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G, iPod Touch, iPod Touch 2G. There are some rumors floating around that Apple did some last minute fixes after they put out the final 3.0 for Developers (June 8). Did Apple do some bug fixes between WWDC 2009 and before the realease of the 3GS? Could it be true? Chargin one the 3GS has been giving some problems as well! Apple has already addressed the problem/bug and will be addressing the fix (3.1) in their next Keynote!
